THE KINCADE CHRONICLES
A walk-in novel about life, love, history & family
My exhibition at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in LaJolla was designed to make viewers feel as if they were stepping into an actual novel. Your first stop was to pick up a letterpress collaged bookmark. Each gallery wall was a titled chapter. Prints, collages and historical ephemera were hung salon style above and below a time line which you followed around the space. Pages of an artist book were suspended from the line giving the reader a glimpse into the personal lives of my fictional family, the Kincades.
From Colonial through contemporary times, you meet the main characters of each age. Historical people and events were blended with my inventions to heighten a sense of Kinacade reality. Five installation vignettes around the gallery provided viewers a sense of place in which my characters existed and where you could interact with some aspect of their lives. Watch a video about the Kincade Chronicles below.
