Our gallery season continues with an exhibition of new work by Bhavna Mehta, one of San Diego’s most innovative and exciting artists in the past few years. Please join us on Saturday, April 2nd from 5:30 to 8 pm for the opening reception and meet the artist.
Bhavna draws with a knife! … cutting paper into beautiful, delicate forms to tell her visual stories. Influenced by the folk art traditions of her native India, her art has been rooted in her immigrant experiences and memories, and by her premise that everything is connected. In this new series entitled “Body 1.0” she turns inward to find beauty in the structure, color and texture of our human form. Combining thread and cut paper, this work examines what makes a body tick, move and act.
Bhavna has been widely exhibited in Southern California. In 2015 she was awarded the Creative Catalyst Grant from the San Diego Foundation in partnership with the Oceanside Museum of Art where she created “GUSH”, her first cut paper installation using stories of the community. She was a San Diego Art Prize emerging artist winner in 2014, working with Marianela de La Hoz. She has been collaborating with other artists bringing her paper talents into the public art sector, and has won multiple awards in juried shows.
For more information and photos visit her website at www.bhavnamehta.com and be sure to watch the wonderful video detailing the creative process of her “GUSH” installation.
