Jim Machacek has been creating artworks in printmaking, artist books, drawing and mixed media for three decades. His artwork has been exhibited extensively in museums and galleries nationwide and in international exhibitions in Japan, Mexico, Canada and Hungary. His artist books are in special collections at the Library of Congress, the Tate Library in London, UCLA, USC, UC Santa Cruz, UC San Diego, the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library La Jolla, SDSU, Brown University, Stanford University, Yale University, the University of Iowa and many other public and private collections around the country. He holds a MFA in printmaking from C.W. Post/Long Island University, a BFA from Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and a BA in journalism from Creighton University. He has lived in San Diego since 1984 and is currently teaching in the art department at San Diego Mesa College where he co-founded Mesa Arts Press to promote the art of fine printing in the production of artists’ books, prints, and ephemera. Other teaching appointments include UC San Diego Extension, Athenaeum School of the Arts, Southwestern College and Boston Museum School. Jim is also co–founder and master printer at Bay Park Press, a San Diego fine art press and collaborative print studio.
